Special post - Thankful for the lessons of the past week.
A week ago today, a tornado ripped through Washington, IL, a neighboring community. Hundreds of houses destroyed. Hundreds more damaged. The week went on as planned, but there was a dull ache in my heart as I watched the reports of the community digging out from the rubble. The ache will surely linger in our hearts as the rebuilding begins. However, I will use this ache as a positive reminder. I commit to thinking of the things I value most every time I hear mention of the 2013 Tornado in the days, weeks, months, years ahead. I commit to using it as a thanksgiving trigger for my faith, my family, my friends. I commit to using it as a reminder that my material belongings of this world are not mine to keep and will all fade away in time. I commit to thinking of the lyrics to the sweet song, Remind Me, Dear Lord.
The things that I love
I hold dear to my heart
They are borrowed and
Not mine at all
Jesus only let me use them
To brighten my life
So remind me, remind me dear Lord
